Phase I - Inpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation
Inpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation is managed by all the hospital staff involved in patient care. Services are individually tailored to each patient's particular needs.
- Physical Therapists and an Exercise Physiologist help open heart surgery patient's exercise and walk. This increases strength and stamina for recovery and prepares the patient to return home.
- Dietitians teach patients healthy cardiac diets.
- Nurses provide instructions about treatments, medications and information needed to go home.
Phase 2 - Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation
Cardiac Rehab helps patients:
- Recover after a heart attack, open heart surgery, angioplasty, stenting and other interventions.
- Learn about heart disease treatment and medicines.
- Reduce the potential of additional heart problems through risk factor modification.
- Learn how to recognize heart symptoms and know when to seek treatment.
Phase 2 Cardiac Rehabilitation participants are scheduled three times per week for up to 36 sessions.
- Medicare and most insurance plans pay for Phase 2 Cardiac Rehabilitation.
- Insurance benefits may be predetermined before participants are enrolled.
- A physician referral is required.
Phase 3 - Cardiac Rehabilitation
Phase 3 is a supervised maintenance exercise program available to patients who have completed Phase 2.
